The city of Santiago de Querétaro (usually just called Querétaro) is a lively but less discovered (at least to non-Mexican tourists) city with lovely and lively colonial center. The gay and lesbian scene is small but lively and the city is progressive and supportive of LGBT rights and the city government made gay marriage available in 2015. However, society remains somewhat conservative; you are unlikely to see gay couples holding hands or being affectionate in public.
With 40% of the state's population in the quickly growing capital, the LGBT community is almost entirely in the capital but for other destinations in the state such as Tequisquiapan or San Juan del Rio, see our Querétaro state page.
