Every time I return to Puerto Vallarta, there seems to be something new to discover, and on my latest trip I stopped into Tommy’s, a recently opened bar in the heart of Zona Romántica. Located at Lázaro Cárdenas 324, it has a polished cocktail-bar feel with low lighting, rich tones and comfortable seating. It feels a little more sophisticated than your typical neighborhood gay bar, but without losing the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes Puerto Vallarta nightlife so much fun.

Tommy’s is owned by Paco and Pato, longtime fixtures behind the bar in Puerto Vallarta, who designed the space themselves. They wanted to create the kind of place where friends could gather, regulars would get to know one another and newcomers would immediately feel welcome. The bar is named after one of their three dogs, Tommy, which somehow makes the whole place even more charming. And yes, it certainly doesn’t hurt that Tommy’s has some very hot bartenders working behind the bar.

Most importantly, the cocktails are great and surprisingly affordable for such a stylish space. Well drinks are 100 pesos, and the daily Happy Hour from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. drops them to 80 pesos, with a cocktail of the day for just 60 pesos. Tommy’s is open from 5:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., making it an easy stop for an early cocktail before dinner or a few drinks later in the evening. With great cocktails, handsome bartenders and a comfortable neighborhood vibe, Tommy’s is definitely one of the newest PV bars to put on your list.
