Monterrey is the main destination in the north but the states of Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua and Sonora also have much to offer LGBT visitors. Please choose the area you'd like more information on:
Nuevo Leon State: Monterrey - Mexico's second biggest city has a lot to offer LGBT+ visitors even if it's not known as a tourist hotspot.
Coahuila State: Saltillo, Torreon and Monclova - Coahuila was the third jurisdiction in Mexico (after CDMX and Quintana Roo) to legalize gay marriage. It has a vibrant LGBT community. Gay life in Coahuila is concentrated in Saltillo, Torreon and Monclova.
Tamaulipas State: Tampico, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo and Matamorros - Tamaulipas was the second to last state in Mexico to legalize same sex marriage so it is a fairly conservative state. There are some options for LGBT visitors in the capital Tampico and in the more liberal border cities of Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo and Matamorros.
Chihuahua State: Chihuahua and Ciudad Juarez - The state of Chihuahua is a fairly conservative place where cowboy culture and machismo rule. But the border areas tend to have a more progressive attitude. LGBT options are primarily in Ciudad Juarez and the capital Chihuahua.
Sonora State: Hermosillo - The capital and largest city of the state is Hermosillo which has an active gay community.
